Grant Calculator — FAQ

How does the free grant eligibility calculator work?

+

The Grants For You calculator asks 6 short questions about your business — industry, age, revenue, employees, state, and certifications — then estimates total grant dollars you may qualify for across federal (SBA, USDA, SBIR/STTR), state economic-development, and private/foundation programs. Estimates are based on average award sizes for matching program categories.

Is this a Pell Grant calculator?

+

No. The federal Pell Grant is a need-based education award for individual U.S. college students and is calculated by the FAFSA Student Aid Index, not by a business profile. For Pell Grant eligibility, use the official federal Pell Grant eligibility calculator at studentaid.gov. The Grants For You calculator estimates business and nonprofit grant funding only.

Are the grant estimates guaranteed funding?

+

No. The estimate is the typical total award range for the grant categories your business profile matches. Actual awards depend on the funder, application quality, and competition. Sign up for free to see live, open programs you currently qualify for.

Can I embed the grant calculator on my website?

+

Yes — copy the iframe snippet below. The embed is free, mobile-friendly, and includes a 'Powered by GrantsForYou.com' attribution link. Bloggers, accountants, and small-business associations are welcome to embed it.

Which grant programs does the calculator cover?

+

Federal: SBA, Grants.gov, SBIR/STTR, USDA Rural Development, EDA, MBDA. State: all 50 state economic-development agencies. Private: Amber Grant, FedEx Small Business Grant, Comcast RISE, foundation and corporate programs. State-specific results are filtered by your selected state.

Federal Pell Grant — Eligibility & Calculator FAQ

The Federal Pell Grant is a separate, need-based award for U.S. undergraduate students. The Grants For You calculator above is for business grants. Use the official resources below for Pell Grant eligibility.

What is the Federal Pell Grant and who is eligible?

+

The Federal Pell Grant is a need-based U.S. Department of Education award for undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor's, graduate, or professional degree. Eligibility is determined by the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and is based on the Student Aid Index (SAI), cost of attendance, enrollment status (full-time vs. part-time), and whether the student attends for a full academic year. Pell Grants generally do not have to be repaid.

Is there an official Pell Grant eligibility calculator?

+

Yes. The official Federal Student Aid Estimator at studentaid.gov/aid-estimator estimates your Pell Grant eligibility and Student Aid Index using your household income, family size, and dependency status. For an exact award you must complete the FAFSA at studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa.

What is the maximum Pell Grant amount?

+

The maximum Federal Pell Grant award is set annually by the U.S. Department of Education. For the 2024–2025 award year the maximum is $7,395. Most recipients receive a partial amount based on their Student Aid Index, enrollment intensity, and length of attendance. Check the current maximum at studentaid.gov/understand-aid/types/grants/pell.

Can a small business owner get a Pell Grant?

+

Pell Grants are awarded to individual undergraduate students based on financial need, not to businesses. A small business owner who is also enrolled at least half-time in an eligible undergraduate program may qualify as a student. To fund a business itself, use the GrantsForYou business grant calculator above to estimate eligibility for SBA, USDA, SBIR/STTR, state economic-development, and private grants.

How do I apply for the Federal Pell Grant?

+

Submit the FAFSA at studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa for the relevant award year. Your school's financial aid office uses your FAFSA results to award Pell funds. You must reapply each year you are enrolled.
